If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person’s point of view and see things from that person’s angle as well as from your own. – Henry Ford

I recently met a fellow with my 25 year old son.  As we were talking the guy threw in there a comment about my brother.  I did not say anything I honestly was not sure what he was saying and it was small talk.  A bit later my son was in the bathroom and he said it again.  This time I corrected him and said no Sean is my son.  We kinda giggled and left it at that.  Actually it made me feel good I must look younger than I am!

Later in the day I was talking to Sean and said, hey I am not sure if that guy was schmoozing me or not but he thought we were brothers.  Sean laughed and said, “yeah I heard him the first time but I did not want to correct him, cause everyone thinks I am much older because I shave my head”!

That is perspective, my perspective came from my belief he meant I looked younger while Sean thought he meant that Sean looked older!  Of course I was correct however, it reminds me that perspective is always involved.  Saint Francis of Assisi said in the St. Francis Prayer, it is best to understand than to be understood.  Striving to see the other perspective is key!

Go, Go, Go…
