What is Happiness?

Happiness is different from pleasure. Happiness has something to do with struggling and enduring and accomplishing.”
– George Sheehan

Our short version of our definition of recovery is “Happiness”.  Whether you model your recovery from addiction after the 12 steps or not the ultimate goal for you is happiness, Joy!  The theme of step 12 is the Joy of Living.  Life is meant to be enjoyed and not to be endured as my good friend Jack Jackson reminds me of often.

When we speak of happiness we are talking about contentment.  Being content within yourself.  Being able to lay your head on your pillow at night and not having regrets for the day.  When we focus on what we want, become willing to put in the work and then “GOYA” Get Off Your Anatomy and act on it, joy follows.  Sure there are struggles, challenges, hurdles but nothing like the pain of addiction.

Put the cork in the jug, admit that you want change, admit that you are ready to conquer and go seize every opportunity in your path…

Go, Go, Go….

Dan 🙂
