We are what we do

We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit.  Aristotle.

I have heard that it takes twenty-one days to form a new habit. I have heard thirty and forty days as well.   I often teach the ninety-day principle.  We can do anything for ninety days.  Making a commitment to follow a new pattern of behavior for ninety-days can go a long way to developing a new healthy lifestyle.  Building on ninety-day commitments will help you achieve excellence.

Striving for excellence is a spiritual principle that is often misconstrued.  As humans we are going to make mistakes.  We are going to fall victim to our desires or go against what we are striving to accomplish in our lives.  This is nearly a given, excellence is not the lack of accomplishment it is the commitments we make that form positive habits in our lives.  We strive for spiritual progress and not spiritual perfection.  Excellence is a virtue of character.  Character is built one day at a time as we strive to create the positive habits in our lives that help us to achieve sanctification and purity.

Life is a wonderful journey.  Enjoy the journey.  Strive for excellence, aim high you won’t be disappointed.
