The Contradiction of Why…

by Daniel · 0 comments

The Buddha was asked, “Where do our (fearful) thoughts come from?” He replied, “you are shot with an arrow, you have an arrow in your body but before you remove it from your body you need to know the particulars: who shot it, why did they shoot it or where did it come from?” We need to make sense of it all, we need to know.. That is the human condition and the contradiction…

The idea of the Buddha’s teaching is we need to remove the arrow, i.e. the arrow represents self generated suffering through thought (over-evaluation) and in the case of addiction the arrow represents the drug. Our thoughts are the collective result of our influencers. How we see things, how we have been raised, where we have been raised… We are taught to challenge all thesis’ or each premise we are presented with via “critical thinking”. We should not take everything at face value is the basis for our survival.

However, in the case of addiction the “Why” is more harmful than it is productive. We need to focus on how to get well. How to first overcome the physical dependence and then the hurts, hangups and resentment we carry. The why is less important especially as we build the recovery foundation for a life free of addiction.

If you or a loved one needs help to overcome addiction take action today, do not wait because life is good…

Go, go, go…

Dan 🙂
