Striving for Excellence

“Striving for perfection is the greatest stopper there is.… It’s your excuse to yourself for not doing anything. Instead, strive for excellence, doing your best.” – Sir Laurence Olivier

At times I have been guilty of attempting to be a perfectionist, in hindsight I can see it was an excuse for the fear of acting.  I needed everything around me to be perfect.  I needed the right computer, desk, chair, office, the correct file folders, and on and on it would go.  But under it all was the fear of getting started.  I felt like I was started by getting everything set up.  I simply feared failure, again!

Today, I do my absolute best at everything I do.  When the fear creeps in I go into overdrive.  I have learned to stack the deck.  Get as much in the hopper so that I am not relying on any one commitment to come through.   Now of course I am not suggesting that you over commit and put too much on your plate.  I am suggesting that for folks that are in business they do the right work.  What is the right work?  Anything that leads to a customer.  Because without customers you do not have a business.

I remember making the decision to lose weight, I decided I was going to eat right and exercise daily.  I went and joined the gym, I bought all the right foods, I read the book on the program I was going to utilize, which then suggested I take vitamins and supplements.  I did not have the money so I waited until I did, then I got the supplements, but I had a wedding for the upcoming weekend so I decided to wait.  Wait I certainly did, I waited till I had the yard sale and sold those vitamins because I just did not have enough time.  The gym? Well it was too crowded in the morning!

Do not let fear covered in the idea of perfection stop you from attaining your goals.  Just Do It!

Go, Go, Go…

Dan 🙂
