Sticks and stones may break your bones but words can never harm you! — My Mother.
Sure we all have been offered this advice and as much as it sounds like a logical and sound principle it is not true in reality. Words have hurt more addicts than anyone would want to admit. We have all had some disparaging remark replay in our minds over and over again. Words have the power to harm us in a big way. We listen to what others say about us or to us and give it credence. We accept those words as fact!
Nowhere has this reality played out in a more impact-full way than in those people afflicted by addiction. The good news is we do not need to accept them any longer. The principles set forth by the founders of the twelve step movement teaches us how to move from victim to victor! We accept that we all make mistakes, we all say stupid hurtful things to others. The power of mutual aid is; as we share our pain it becomes our strength!
Words hurt when we do not know how to process them. Today we recognize them for what they are, false & irrelevant! Today we live a recovered life, a life of gratitude, forgiveness and positivity! Life is good!
Go, Go, Go…
