“If no one ever took risks, Michelangelo would have painted on the Sistine floor.” – Neil Simon
The most important risk we can ever take is trusting another human being as a sponsor or mentor. I remember back to when I finally decided to join the human race and abstain from all mind altering substances. I decided that telling anyone my deepest darkest secrets would absolutely not happen. The truth would remain within me till death do us part!
I had experienced telling the truth of my inequities in the past. One day as a teen I had been caught with a hash-pipe in my bedroom. The pipe belonged to a friend of mine. I denied ownership to my parents. Caught a pretty bad beating by my dad. Then my mom came in to talk to me. She said tell us the truth it is better that way. So I spilled the beans. After a horrendous ass-whipping one more time I found myself in front of my friend and his parents. Well I vowed to steer clear of the truth after that.
Yet something inside of me said trust my sponsor George. I am so glad I did! The risk was well worth it. Well over 20 years of sober living proves that. Life is goooood!
Go, Go, Go…
