The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.
— Stephen R. Covey
In early recovery one thing some folks worry about is “how am I going to get to meetings for 90 straight days”? Often that question is not about the time, it is about the priority. There are several priority issues an individual questions when faced with this aspect of recovery.
Family time, work, recreation, socialization and other challenges such as educational pursuits to name a few important ones. These are all extremely valid issues and considerations however, many of us have no balance in our lives prior to recovery. The binge drinker that stops for one drink and never leaves the tavern does not fulfill their responsibility to their family. Therefore a ninety day immersion into a new way of life is a small price to pay. A price that any family member will vote YES for if questioned!
As we begin to recover and move through the steps a healthy balance between all priorities is necessary to live happy, joyous and free. Having a schedule written down, preferably in a calendar or if you are like most folks today in your smart phone calendar feature with an alarm reminder for the important stuff is helpful. If you want what we have, do what we do!
Go, Go, Go…
