Practice, Drill & Rehearse

“What we hope ever to do with ease we may learn first to do with diligence.”  – Samuel Johnson

When it comes to learning anything new we must first comprehend the lesson, make a decision to apply the principle, and then take action.   To learn effectively we must “Practice, Drill & Rehearse”.  Recovery principles are changing our old patterns and learning how to live a new set of principles.  By setting up disciplines that will assist you in implementing the recovery principles and strategies.

For instance, I utilize my e-Calendar and sync it with my PDA that I carry with me.  Not only does this tool keep me posted on my appointments, calls to be made, tasks to accomplish, but more importantly it sounds an alarm for me to check my attitude, and read my “Goals & Affirmations”.

As I teach these principles to new guests and students they often report that it feels impossible to change.  They will point out that it is easier said than done, and it is!  But what they fail to realize is that practicing these principles for 20 plus years I can attest that they work and work well.  Yes, these disciplines seem tedious in the beginning but with discipline and diligence comes the ease of sustaining a positive mental attitude of a “Recovered Life”!

Go, Go, Go…
