Make People Feel Special

“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.” – Mark Twain

We teach the ABC’s of Recovery here at Real Life Recovery and I do community and organizational awareness lectures.   In fact the ABC’s really apply to life and not solely for those of us recovering from alcoholism or addictions.

A is always be positive, light yourself on fire with enthusiasm.  I have found that people do not want to be with negative people.  We all express negativity on a daily basis but think about the most negative people you know.  Do you enjoy being with them?  Even people that err on the side negativity hate being with negative people!  It simply drains you.

B is Be a student of life.  Be prepared for success.  Develop an above average will to win.  Always be learning new things in life, be a student of life.  Have a schedule and stick to it.  Listen to self improvement audios, watch self improvement DVD’s.  Addiction preys on mediocrity and boredom.  Be a possibility thinker, look for the opportunity to learn and grow as a human being.

C is cheer-lead others.  Mark Twain had it correct, make others feel great about themselves.  Tell people that they are special, encourage them and build them up.  Listen to others twice as much as you talk, you have two ears and one mouth, use them proportionately!  Be a people person, point out the goodness to others.

The recovered life is a great life.  Addiction and alcoholism rob us of the joy of living!  Life is goooooood!!!

Go, Go, Go…
