Make me feel special

“There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved” – George Sand

Every single one of us has a flashing sign blaring across our chest it reads, “MAKE ME FEEL SPECIAL”!  We all want to be loved, feel appreciated and held in high esteem.  None of us want to be lone wolves in a sea of nothingness!  I remember the feeling I had during the months leading up to my surrender to addictions.  I would be in a crowded bar or party seemingly having fun maybe even the center of attention yet inside I was alone.  I would end up in my bed at night or morning in reality and feel desperately alone.

Often I would call my mother and ask for help only to forget I called or call back after I had a few in me again only to avoid doing anything about my condition(s).  Finally on April 13, 1988 my mom said to me on our late night phone call, “Danny, do not call me back tomorrow because me and your dad are coming to get you!”  I lived five hours away and about six hours later there they were!  I wanted help, I needed help!

Being loved continues to be a need for all of us whether we are in early recovery or seasoned of sorts!  The principle we teach and I have implemented in my life of “Cheerlead Others” helps me to remember that we all need to be loved and appreciated.  So don’t be afraid to spread the love!!!  Life is gooooood!

Go, Go, Go…

Dan 🙂
