Make it Count!

“Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch, which I have got a hold of for the moment; and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.” George Bernard Shaw

I remember looking at my son Sean when he was eleven and thinking, “Oh My God, I simply can not imagine this boy smoking pot and drinking alcohol at this age”.  Yet for me that was the case.  I started smoking pot and partying the summer between sixth and seventh grade.  By the time I hit eighth grade I was walking to school in the morning alone and smoking a joint on the way.

That thought gave me inspiration and the drive to remain clean and sober.  I wanted to be a great dad, I did not want my children to become what I had been.  I wanted them to experience life, enjoy life and seize the opportunity that life holds for them.  I knew that for me it was an opportunity to change the course of my family forever.  As I remained sober my family would get better and better and better!

This thinking is proving to be true.  Surely we have faced our challenges but as time goes by we overcome each one with a clear and sober mind.  We are certainly not immune from what I call “The Creature”, addiction, but fortunately for today the cycle has been damaged if not broken!

Life is good!  Go, Go, Go…

Dan 🙂
