“Love is what we are born with. Fear is what we have learned here. The spiritual journey is the unlearning of fear and the acceptance of love back into our hearts.” — Marianne Williamson
When I think of fear I start with the idea that it is a natural occurrence, “fight or flight” is what comes to mind. But for those of us that have faced the demon of addiction, fear is the over abundance of our negative self. We have developed an unhealthy dose of fear and we react to it as if it is a reality. We drink and drug due to its effects on us. We ruin relationships because of it and more.
Spirituality shows us how to love and to be loved. I remember early in my recovery being told that people would love me back to health. I grasped onto that with all I had. I wanted to be loved more than anything else in this world. Today I see fear for what it is and I have love and joy in my heart. It all starts with letting others in and accepting love as reality over fear!
