“The tragedy in life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach.”
– Benjamin Mays
I have a busy week that started for me on Friday. I went to visit my cousin Bill and his wife Beth in Northern Florida. Drove back on Saturday night and then over to visit my cousin Stephanie in Fort Myers on Sunday for lunch. Swung down to pick up my son Sean and headed back to Fort Lauderdale where my sons Liam and Seamus came in for spring break from New York. I am excited to have a week of fun in the sun with my three sons. We are going to a Miami Heat game, Billy Swamp Safari and South Beach.
On Friday and Saturday with Bill and Beth we had a ball. I have always looked up to my cousin Bill and loved his dad my Uncle Harry. We had the chance to reminisce about our time with Uncle Harry in fact one of his favorite sayings was “youth is wasted on the young”. I know what he means today I didn’t as a teen! Bill is sober as well so it makes for a great visit we went to his home group Saturday morning early to help set up. It was the anniversary of the group 26 years as a group and best of all it was an “Eating Meeting”! I had the chance to indulge in some home made Raspberry French Toast and Bill well he tried everything from the buffet it was an amazing sight he never asked what anything was he just tried it! I am not there yet!
My trip to visit Stephanie was pleasant as well. I held out hope for Stephanie for years, while Bill is sober 24 years Stephanie has just started her recovery journey, 52 days. The amazing thing to me is the vigor she has for life now, she goes to meetings daily, has a sponsor does service work and attends IOP and individual therapy at the V.A.
As I write I can not help to think that Bill a retiree sober 24 years has a vigor for life, he does service work he has a sponsor and an amazing support group and family. Stephanie just starting out does service work attends meetings, has a sponsor and an amazing support group of women on her side and you can see the life back in her eyes! I wonder if there is a connection?
Boy, life is goooooood!!!
Go, Go, Go…
