“Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn’t know that so it goes on flying anyway.” – Mary Kay Ash
I am sure we have all heard the story of the frog and the scorpion. In this case it bears repeating. A frog and a scorpion sit by the side of the river. The scorpion says to the frog, “please give me a ride over to the other side of the river”. The frog says, “no way are you nuts? You will bite me and we both will drown”. The scorpion says to the frog, “please I will not bite you I need a lift to the other side and you are my only way across! Please, I will not bite you take me to the other side”. So the frog succumbs and says “what the hay, hop on lets go”.
The scorpion pops onto his back and away they go. Halfway across the river the scorpion becomes restless and BINGO bites the frog in the back! The frog becomes paralyzed and they start to sink, the frog looks up at the scorpion and says, “why did you do that, we are both going to die?” The scorpion simply replies, “because I am a scorpion and that is what we do!”
Well if we continue to do the same thing we will get the same results. For too many years I did the same things and got the same results. Why? Because I was an alcoholic and that is what alcoholic’s do! However, what I am not is a scorpion. Scorpions as well as all insects and animals have internal directions or commands that come to them. They do not make choices, they simply do! As a human being I have choices. I can choose to do the same thing over and over again or I can choose to change strategies. I can look at life and say “well it is my lot in life I am not meant to fly”, or I can choose to take a page out of the bumblebee’s book and soar to new and great heights! I make that choice, I am recovered today because I chose the impossible. Drunks drink, scorpions bite and paralyze! But today this drunk soars like the bumblebee!
Go, Go, Go…
