A life of reaction is a life of slavery, intellectually and spiritually. One must fight for a life of action, not reaction. – Rita Mae Brown
E + R = O. Event plus response equals outcome! Learning to respond to adversity or simply life events, is crucial for the individual in recovery. When things go wrong, and they will go wrong, we must look critically at the situation, evaluate our options and respond in an informed way. The concept of having a sponsor, spiritual advisor and/or mentor should not be taken lightly. Gathering information from people that have walked the walk before us is extremely helpful and quite frankly critical to our success.
As we progress in our recovery we will learn that taking the time to walk through adversity and not skirt the issues we will be better prepared for hectic emergency situations. Learning restraint of pen and tongue in the difficult times will assist us when stress rises and an immediate response is necessary. Life is good!
