Don’t take yourself too damn seriously…

“The one important thing I have learned over the years is the difference between taking one’s work seriously and taking one’s self seriously. The first is imperative, the second is disastrous.”
– Margot Fonteyn

In the Twelve and Twelve on page 148 rule number 62 is offered, “Don’t take yourself too damn seriously.”  I remember I had been unemployed and attending day meetings it seemed that the meetings I was attending were full of retirees that were “Old-timers” in the fellowship.  I was griping one day and sharing about my feelings and after the meeting a fellow came to chat.  The message, “Rule 62, Don’t take yourself too damn seriously”!

Life is meant to be enjoyed and when we are worried, angry, resentful, or any other self centered feeling we are not enjoying the journey.  We need to lighten up and enjoy the journey.  I am witness to the over complication of life for folks in early recovery.  Recently I had a fellow tell me he was sent here to bring the “New Twelve Steps” to the youth of the 21st century!  I simply smiled and thought about Rule 62!

Go, Go, Go…

Dan 🙂
