Of course we all talk to ourselves on a daily basis. We are thinkers and self talkers. Often we talk to ourselves in the negative, “aaa look at you, you did it again, when are you gonna learn”? “OK time to get moving, you need to get to a meeting, pick up bread and milk, call Sean, ahhhh crap you forgot to call…”! Our self talk goes on and on and we listen to ourselves dump the negatives on. This kind of self talk leads to feelings of doubt, fear or despair. Before we have our first cup of coffee we may have beat ourselves into negativity and if we leave it at that we may have ruined our day.
We must go beyond reacting to what we feel. We must talk to ourselves about what is real. The truth is we will fail at times. We will forget to make the call. We will forget or fail to live up to our expectations for the day. But how we talk to ourselves must move us to positive action and not add drag to our lives. Our self talk must build us up and not tear us down!
