Be a Giver

“If America is the pursuit of happiness, the best way to pursue happiness is to help other people.” George Lucas

Anyone that works a job or owns a business helps other people, we are paid in direct proportion for our contribution to society.  As part of the recovered life we look to take this a step further.  In most cases it is to give back to those that are still fighting addiction.  For others it goes beyond the addictions field.  One of the principles we teach as part of The Last Resort Recovery Program is to do something good for another human being at least on a weekly basis.

We do this with a twist, tell no-one of your kindness and do not let the recipient of the good will know it was you if it is at all possible.  Living the recovered life is about joy.  We develop joy from the inside out.  It takes a sense of humility, giving without the expectation for gain, promoting wellness amongst our peers, family and other members of the community.

Go ahead try it, stick a $100 bill in the mail to someone or family that you know needs it.  Go to a different city to mail it so the postmark does not indicate it came from you.  Buy a few gift cards for food at the supermarket and drop those to a person that could really use the cheer.  Most of us have given the pan-handler a buck or two.  We know exactly what he/she will do with it.  Stick a food card in the cup instead!

Life is good and it will only get better if you believe!

Go, Go, Go…

Dan 🙂
