Baby Boomers: Drug Abusers

by Daniel · 0 comments

Reuters reported on Wednesday August 19, 2009 that: The rates of people aged 50 to 59 who admit to using illicit drugs in the past year nearly doubled from 5.1 percent in 2002 to 9.4 percent in 2007 while rates among all other age groups are the same or decreasing, the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration reported.

Some of us simply never grow up but this is a dangerous proposition that poses serious ramifications for our country.  Health-care costs continue to rise as we age.  The stress that illegal drugs plays on our body is enormous and then add in the age factor and boom the boomers are placing a huge burden on our system.  9.4% is a significant number!  This does not include alcohol abuse, which would add at a minimum an additional 5%.

There are no easy answers however the squeeze on this generation has taken another turn.  Spread the message “Recovery” works, life is good with a clean and sober mind!
