Action Now!

“Action is the antidote to despair.”  – Joan Baez

Many of us through the years have made decisions or so we thought, only to find ourselves quickly back in the same situation we were attempting to break free of.  If you are like me, you probably hopped right onto the pity-pot and thought, “what’s the use”?  My intentions were always good and pure yet somehow I simply ended up back where I started or worse.

The recovery journey started with “despair” for me.  Being sick and tired of being sick and tired.  For a period of time I tried everything, I stopped smoking pot, I stopped taking barbiturates, I stopped mixing drinks, no more shots!  Nothing seemed to work.  Then finally when I was at the end of my rope I made the decision to abstain from all mind altering substances.  Honestly, I had made this declaration in the past.  The difference?  Action, it was necessary to take action.  I needed to implement a game plan a strategy that had worked for many people before me.

I began to take advice, I attended self help meetings, I took the action steps that needed to be taken in order achieve my goal of happiness and joy.  I knew that total abstinence was the only way for me.  I opened my mind and shut my mouth and began to do what I needed to do to achieve sobriety.

Today I can utilize the same principles when I want to change any area of my life.  When I make a decision I must take action.  No action, no decision and therefore no change.  For me today, Pain creates awareness, awareness helps me to admit my faults, which lead me to a decision to change, I then take action and life gets better and better and better!

Go, Go, Go…
